How to make an accessible word document

Guidance for creating accessible documents using our corporate templates

All documents published on any government website must be accessible. We are breaking the law if they are not.

If you are the author of a document you must follow some basic steps to ensure your document is readable by all before it is shared and published on or any other site. The first step is to use one of the council's corporate word templates found on the intranet.

Next, follow the 'how to' links on the left to make sure you use the template correctly and understand how the features work.

We have written this guide for users of Word for Office 365. If you are using an earlier version of word you can access Word for Office 365 via VDI.
